This photography project brought me to the historic Café Hoppe, a legendary bar in the heart of Amsterdam, where tradition and charm have remained unchanged since 1670. I had the privilege of capturing the essence of this timeless space, its warm, nostalgic atmosphere, and the people who keep its spirit alive.
At the heart of Hoppe is Bernhard van den Haak, a bartender with over 28 years of experience, whose charisma and dedication to hospitality define the soul of the café. His stories reflect a bygone era—when journalists lingered over afternoon drinks and regulars built lifelong connections at the bar.
I aimed to capture the café’s rich history: the worn wooden bar, the soft glow of afternoon light, and the sense of community. Hoppe is more than just a bar; it’s a living piece of Amsterdam’s past.
