For this article in Vice Netherlands, I photographed Bakery Sonnemans in Burgh-Haamstede which offers fresh bread alongside a unique WWII collection from co-owner Mathieu Sonnemans. Focused on the Atlantikwall, his artifacts include bunkerlights, Nazi photo albums, and a bunkertoilet repurposed as a trash bin. Visitors come from across the country to see his growing collection, and he hopes to open a museum someday.
For the photography, I captured the contrast between everyday life and history, using natural light and framing to highlight the objects within the bakery’s warm, working atmosphere.
