In this article for i-D magazine, I photographed the story of people of color navigating the limited availability of hair salons and products for afro hair in the Netherlands. Writers Bo Hanna and Ruby Cruden explore the lack of expertise in the hair industry, the ignorance surrounding afro hair, and the societal beauty standards that often pressure people to conform.
Dominique Snip, founder of the Kroeshaar Academy, is working to change this by educating hairdressers on how to properly care for afro hair. She also produces specialized products that embrace natural textures rather than suppress them.
